WTF Have they done to The ThunderCats???

So apparently there is a reboot of the ThunderCats coming to Cartoon Network and I’m gonna be honest here, it looks just terrible. Obviously this new cartoon series is not meant for fans of the original but rather a newer, younger generation of viewers. However, what they have turned this series into just looks plain insulting. I’m usually not the guy to just write things off completely until I’ve seen them, but Thunder Cats Roar is definitely a show that I will be avoiding like the plague. I think the worst part about it is that the creator of this series claims to be a fan of the original ThunderCats series and some how believes that he is paying homage to it with this new show.

“I think the world that they built lends itself really well to comedy because of how silly and crazy and outlandish those ideas are and some of those settings are,” says producer Victor Courtright in the exclusive behind-the-scenes video above. “But at the same time, it wouldn’t be ThunderCats if it didn’t have super cool action elements because that’s what people came back to. It’s very much something that we want to lean on. So with the new show, we’re not walking away from the action in any bit. Every step we take towards comedy, we take two more towards really cool action scenes and explosions and lasers and actions effects.” quote take from – Entertainment Weekly

I think what makes this whole thing even worse for me is that Cartoon Network already brought us an update to the ThunderCats back in 2011 that was actually good. The animation was great, the story lines were great, the character arcs were great, it was just all around a great show. The problem was that the toy line wasn’t great and didn’t sell well so Cartoon Network canned the series after only one season. I hate to wish the same fate on another series but I honestly hope that this new series does not last long. There are so many awesome things they could have done with the ThunderCats property and this garbage is what Cartoon Network decided to go with? I’m definitely disappointed.
