Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Info and Trailers

Yesterday Treyarch revealed the very first look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 complete with multi-player mode, zombies, and even a brand NEW battle royale mode. However one thing that was noticeably absent from the game is a campaign mode. Honestly I’m not sure if this is a good thing or not. The last few Call of Duty games have had terrible campaign modes and were a far cry (no pun intended) from some of the awesome stories that were told in the early games. However, this could have been an opportunity to go back to their roots a bit and give fans of the series something that they have been asking for for years. Still I think if you are a fan of the franchise there is a lot to be excited about here.

There are many positive changes that are coming with Black Ops 4. For instance the gun recoil system is now a lot more intuitive, meaning that different sets of attachments actually will affect the recoil of a gun differently. Not only that, but attachments will also affect the atheistic of your weapons more than before giving you a more custom feel to your load outs. The health system has changed where you now have to proactively heal yourself rather than just taking cover and healing automatically. However, one of the biggest changes of all is that there is no longer jet packs or wall running in the game. A lot of players have said that they wanted COD to move away from futuristic combat and return to “Boots on the ground.”

Personally though I think removing those things only works if you return the franchise to more of a modern warfare style of game.  Treyarch has kept the same futuristic operators and weapons in the game, but took away the jet packs and wall runs? Kind of pointless in my opinion. Black Ops is returning with Zombie mode once again however, this time with 3 new maps to play and explore. The most interesting looking map to me was the old cruise ship that is supposed to resemble the Titanic. I think this would have been a great opportunity to take it back to the Vietnam War era with zombies, especially since that is where the Black Ops games got their start, but instead they went back to the 1930s just like in Black Ops 3.

The biggest announcement had to be the inclusion of the new Black Out mode aka battle royale mode. Apparently there will be a large open map 100 times bigger than most COD maps where players can battle it out. There will also be vehicles to travel with on land, sea, and air. Finally, they said it will include the entire Black Ops library such as characters, weapons, and maps all of which can be found inside this game mode. So it sounds like this giant map will be made up of a bunch of smaller maps from the Black Ops series. My biggest fear with this however is the inclusion of micro transactions. We are going to pay $60 for this game, even more for a season pass and DLC, then micro transactions on top of it all for Black Out mode.

As much hate as Black Ops 4 is getting right now there is still a large fan base that is excited for this game. Personally I have missed the fast paced type of shooter that Call of Duty is known for. That’s not to say that I don’t have my criticisms about this game. To me it looks like Activision and Treyarch completely went away from innovation and went with what’s popular. Instead of making a game that felt fresh and new, they pretty much just combined 3 popular games (Overwatch, Fornite/PUBG, Rainbow 6 Siege) hoping to cash in on the current trends. Unfortunately it leaves the long time fans of Black Ops feeling disappointed and looking to upcoming games like Battlefield 5.
