Nintendo Announces SNES Classic

For those of you that might have missed out on a chance to own the official NES Classic that was released by Nintendo last year, fear not because you are getting another chance to own a classic Nintendo gaming system. Today Nintendo announced that they will be releasing the Super Nintendo Classic and personally I am more excited about this one than I was for the NES classic. The release date is set for September 29 and will be sold for $80 U.S. The Super Nintendo Classic will come with 21 games and include the previously unreleased Star Fox 2. Now if this isn’t Nerdgasmic I honestly don’t know what is.

As excited as I am about this release I have to admit that I feel like Nintendo is being a bit greedy once again. This time the system comes with only 21 games instead of 30 and it cost $20 more than the NES Classic did. The truth is they could easily fit 100 games in this mini console but for some reason they are giving us just enough to barely make it worth the price. Hopefully this time they won’t do the limited run on the system like they did with the NES classic. Still the line up of games looks awesome and if you grew up in the 90s you will definitely recognize most, if not all, of these classic Super Nintendo titles.

  •  Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man® X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2
  • Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Yoshi’s Island

Along with these awesome games the Super Nintendo Classic will also come with an HDMI cable,  charging cable, and two SNES controllers. I definitely have to give credit to Nintendo for this decision, because they could have easily only included one controller and forced us to purchase another separately. Still I’m a little surprised they didn’t go wireless so hopefully the controller cables are longer than the last ones. All in all this looks amazing and I can’t wait to pick one up in September…Provided I can actually find one.
