Mega Drive Mini NOT An Official Sega Console

So recently we saw Nintendo officially announce the release of the NES mini. Shortly after there were tons of reports going around that Sega was getting back into the console war with Nintendo by releasing a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive mini. I hadn’t actually gotten a chance to read up about it until today when I saw another interesting article put out by Kotaku. Turns out the Sega Mega Drive is nothing more than a cheaply made emulator box that has actually been around for years.

Unfortunately Sega is not releasing a mini console that come pre-loaded with classic Genesis games. According to Kotaku The Mega Drive is made by a Chinese company called AtGames and the system has actually been out since at least 2012. I remember several years back old school console emulators that you could plug directly into the TV were all the rage. However this Mega Drive still uses older hardware, has terrible controls, and honestly barely works at all. Sadly there is no official Sega Genesis mini console on the way but hey, we can still dream guys.

As always I want to hear from you Nerd Nation. Are you disappointed that Sega is not making an official mini console to compete with Nintendo, and were you fooled at all by the Mega Drive reports?
