Tech Review: UtechSmart Saturn Gaming Keyboard

This is my review for The UtechSmart Saturn Marquee Gaming Keyboard. Recently my Aula Gaming Keyboard stopped working so I was forced to purchase a new one. I did however do a review on that as well so if you are thinking about getting one or want to compare the two Click Here to see my review for that. I’ve had this new keyboard for about a week and my initial impressions are that I really like this product. However, I am not a PC gamer so my need and use of this keyboard may be different than your own. I run Windows 7 on my PC and it works no problem.

I purchased the UtechSmart Saturn Marquee Gaming Keyboard from Amazon for the price of $29.99 U.S. As of 6/16/2016 that is the current sale price. Apparently it has been reduced from $49.99 U.S. I don’t know how long this keyboard will be on sale but that’s just what is says on the Amazon page. If you are interested in purchasing this keyboard then Click Here to go to the Amazon page. Using my Amazon Prime account I got free shipping and the keyboard arrived to my house in just two days. It was packaged nicely and arrived without any damage to the box or to the keyboard it’s self. The product packaging is very simple with no elaborate or colorful graphics of any kind. I assume that this is to save on costs so that UtechSmart can sell their products at a lower price. That’s actually a really smart thing because I’m sure this would cost a bit more if they had gone with some more elaborate packaging.

I have to admit that being a graphic designer I do appreciate a well put together product package, but as a consumer I do like saving money. So even though the package is simple the keyboard is anything but. It does not come with any software to install for it to work but it does have a lot of customization features that you can adjust. It is fully back lit with tons of different color options for the LED lights. 90% of gamers will be able to find a color that fits with the color scheme in their set up. The LEDs are nice and bright a lot more than my Aula Gaming Keyboard was. However, the keys are membrane NOT mechanical. Again I am not a PC gamer so this doesn’t really mean much to me. I find the key strokes to be quiet but still pretty satisfying. Plus it comes with a braided chord rather than a standard rubber chord like my last one.

gaming-keyboard-07The Saturn Keyboard it’s self  actually feels a lot more durable than my last keyboard. It has a bit more weight to it and overall is just a bit beefier. The best part that gamers will love about the UtechSmart Saturn Marquee Gaming Keyboard is that it is water proof. There are 10 ports on the underside of the keyboard that allows any liquid that gets spilled on it to drain out. Now I personally have not tested this feature, nor do I plan to but I have seen it tested for this exact Keyboard on YouTube and it definitely works. So that might be a big feature for those of you that have ever lost a keyboard as a result of an accidental spill. Personally I’ve never had that happen but it’s nice to know that feature is there. Also you can lock the windows key so it won’t matter if you accidentally hit it while gaming.

I really like the multi-media keys at the top of the keyboard which my last one did not have. Its so convenient being able to put my computer to sleep at the quick push of a button rather than having to go to the start menu or wait for the timer to kick in. There are just a couple of small things that I don’t like about this keyboard. For one, the brightness dial stays the same color instead of changing with the rest of the lights. Also, this keyboard did not come with any macro key caps or the little tool to remove the existing key caps. I know that they can be removed and replaced with different caps but just be careful when doing it. Again, this doesn’t really apply to me, but my last keyboard came with the tool and the extra key caps. It just seems like a good option to have especially for a gaming keyboard. These things are basically nit picking though.

gaming-keyboard-08Other than that I really do love this keyboard. Over all it feels great to type on and looks great with the rest of my setup. The different customizable options will fit the needs for most people looking for a solid back lit gaming keyboard, and at a cost of just under $30 I think it’s a great buy. Again, I am not a PC gamer. I am just a lowly blogger and graphic designer, but my keyboards do get a ton more use out of them compared to just the average, everyday PC user’s keyboard.
