First Look at Scarlett Johansson In Ghost In The Shell

Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures has officially announced filming has begun on the live action Ghost In The Shell movie and has given us our first look at Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi aka The Major. Honestly, I can’t believe that this is really happening. There is no doubt that Ghost in The Shell was a ground breaking anime movie, and has a hell of an extended story. I definitely believe that Ghost in The Shell could make a great live action movie franchise if done right.

I’ve talked about this before in an article when the news of this movie being made first broke. To check that out  just click here. Honestly I hate it even more now than I did when I first heard that Scarlett Johansson was going to be playing The Major. So how is this supposed to work since the lead character is Japanese and the story takes place in Neo Japan? It’s obvious that they are going to change the location and the name of Scarlett Johansson’s character. No doubt they’ll call her Major but no one is going to believe that her character is Japanese.

Scar-Jo-Ghost-In-The-Shell-02Personally I am not really impressed and in this picture Scar-Jo just looks confused. So far there has been no official release date announced but I don’t think I will be seeing this movie in theaters anyways. In my last article I compared this to the 2013 remake of Total Recall in the sense that it’s going to be a “re-imagining.” In short, they are going to change all the things that people loved about the original anime to fit this directors vision.

However, I want to know what you think Nerd Nation. Now that you’ve gotten your first look as Scarlett Johansson as The Major, what do you think? Are you liking the look or do you think this was a bad casting choice?
