Big Hero 6 TV Series On The Way

As many people have waited to hear about a possible Big Hero 6 sequel none of us really expected it to come in the form of a TV series. Disney’s 2014 Academy award winning feature film was inspired by the Marvel comic book characters created by Man of Action’s Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau. The movie was a huge hit with audiences around the world and I think this could be really exciting news as long as it holds true to what made the film so great.

Disney Channel’s Worldwide Chief Creative Officer Gary Marsh announced today that a Big Hero 6 TV series is currently in the works and set for a 2017 premiere. The series will air on the Disney XD channel and so far there has been no word on casting. The series will pick up immediately after the events of the Big Hero 6 feature film, and is a considered to be a direct sequel to the events of the movie. Some more great news isKim Possible” creator Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley will be heading up the Disney XD series.

Big-Hero-6-Movie-03A statement from Gary Marsh We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series that is full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob, and Baymax can deliver. Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters.

I have to admit that I have mixed feelings about this series. Some of the great things about the movie were that it was accessible to both kids and adults. I’m a little worried that this new series will be more for kids, which isn’t a bad thing, but that will mean that most likely the adult fans might not enjoy it as much. I guess only time will tell but for the most part, I am excited about this news and hope the new series does well. Also there is no word whether or not the series will be animated in CG or traditional animation.

Big-Hero-6-Movie-04So again, keep an eye for this series coming in 2017. As always I want to hear from you Nerd Nation.
