Legend of Zelda Live Action Series

I seriously hope this isn’t another joke like the April fool’s one played on us by IGN back in 2008. It is being reported that Netflix is planning a Game of Thrones type series (without the killing and explicit sexual scenes) based on the hugely popular video game, The Legend of Zelda. *NERDGASM* As of right now the show is in the “very early” stage of development. This could seriously be a dream come true for those of us who were fooled in the 2008 live action movie prank…IGN you Bastards!

Netflix-OrignalsAccording to MovieWeb Netflix is reportedly working closely with Nintendo on this project. That is really great news because we all know how picky Nintendo is about the use of their properties. So in this sense they might actually make it something the fans will love. On the other hand Nintendo is also known to be complete control freaks (just look at the whole Nintendo/YouTube affiliate mess) so hopefully they don’t screw this up. Ultimately it is being called “light-hearted” and very “kid-friendly” which most LOZ games are so this should be very interesting.

Netflix has had a ton of success with their streaming service and with their original series. I’ve heard a ton of good things about “Orange is The New Black” and I think their original anime series “Knights of Sidonia” is awesome. I have a lot of confidence that Netflix and Nintendo can really make this something the fans of Legend of Zelda will love…as long as they can work together and not step on each other’s toes.

So far there has been no release date given but we’ll let you know as we hear something. As always I want to know what you think Nerd Nation. With all the success of their original series do you think Netflix is the right way to go with the Legend of Zelda?  Also, are you just plain excited about seeing one of the biggest video game franchises in history being turned into a live action adaptation? Oh and check out the live action movie trailer from 2008 below. Leave me your thoughts in a comment below, on the Facebook page, or on Twitter.
