Throw Back Thursday: Prime’s Death (Video)

What up Nerd Nation it’s Tenacious-T comin at ya with a throw back Thursday memory of mine. To me this is still the most gut wrenching scene in all of cinema history. Old Yeller has nothing on this shit. If you were a kid who grew up in the 80s then you know that the most traumatizing scene in a movie was when Optimus Prime died in Transformers the movie. I know there are a lot of people that would disagree with me, but I know I’m not alone in this either.

As kids we always have heroes that we idolize and look up to. For me Optimus Prime, Spider-Man, and The Ultimate Warrior were my 3 fictional heroes that I looked up to. I don’t remember much about the time leading up to the release of the Transformers movie, but I definitely remember going to see it. My father took me to go see it at the drive in somewhere in Indiana. I was so excited because in my eyes this was the movie to end all movies. Nothing could be better than an actual Transformers movie.

Of course it was suppose to follow the same format as the show. Megatron comes up with a stupid plan to drain the world of it’s energon supply, the Autobots arrive just in time to stop him, and everyone goes home happy…Except Megatron. However that’s not how it went at all. Not even half way through the movie one of my most prominent heroes of my childhood dies a horrible death right before my innocent little eyes. that’s not suppose to happen in kids cartoons. I remember my whole 5 year old world fell apart and I cried through the rest of the damn move…Stop Laughing!

For those of you that don’t think that this is the saddest scene in movie history then I dare you to watch this without shedding a tear. If you make it then it is proof that you have no soul haha ;). As always let me know what you think Nerd Nation. Do you have any other traumatic movie experiences from your childhood?
