Bunny-B’s Anime Review 01

Usually when high school type anime pops into the mind of any otaku we think of quirky high school girls having adventures that are quite unusual. Whether there is a grade school transfer character or a quiet and intelligent type, fun seems to be around any corner, but what about the life of teenage boys? In Daily Lives of High School Boys (男子高校生の日) you see just that, the role reversed and the main characters are boys. In fact, Tadakuni, one of three of the main characters, has a sister where her eyes are never shown in any episode. This continues on with most of the female cast as well.

The show is quite humorous, lively, and always has new events that do not seem to disappoint. The only complaint I had upon watching this series was that a few episodes in the male cast seemed to gain similar personality traits, and it was as if you were watching an anime about only one character. Do not let this scare you though. It doesn’t ruin the punch lines and the comedic outbursts we all love to see in anime of this genre.

Wanting more? I know I was and I can hardly wait for the second season. In the last episode of the first season it is mentioned that Daily Lives of High School Boys will live to see a second season…but it is hard to say when. Rumors on the interwebs say that spring of this year there will be an announcement about season 2. Let’s cross our fingers and hope this is not another High School of the Dead situation where the creators just seems to drop from the face of the earth leaving the world with only one season. This anime is able to be viewed on Hulu, or for those who do not have a membership, the all faithful YouTube has it available as well.

If you’re like me and can’t wait for the second season then you’re in luck. This series was a manga first and can be viewed at www.ganganonline.com for the original Japanese version and www.mangareader.net for the English version.

Looking into the lives of Tadakuni, Yoshitake and Hidenori there is always a conversation that stirs excitement; Either a pause in daily life to role play with inanimate objects found on the ground, or even trying on some of Tadakuni’s younger sister’s clothing for the sake of pure curiosity. These awkward boys take one day at a time and make the best of it by truly being…well…teenage boys (being a girl I do not know what goes through a teenage boys mind other than what my parents pounded into my noggin growing up, so I find this anime refreshing).

I highly recommend Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (Daily Lives of High School Boys) to anybody who is looking for a comedic and episodic anime to watch. Whether you are an established Otaku or a beginner stepping into the anime world for the first time, you’ll most definitely find something to enjoy in this series. There are a few questionable phrases or actions that may seem inappropriate for a younger audience (They are teenage boys after all) however, just about anyone could watch and enjoy this anime. This is truly a must watch for any anime lover.
