Female Gamer Catches Harassers

So I think most of us that spend a decent amount of time online has or will at some point run into an internet tough guy. You know the ones, that can’t say enough bad things about our moms, like to use a lot of foul language and say more deplorable shit than we knew actually existed. For the most part you let that stuff roll off your back and move on with your life. Well some people took it too far with a female gamer reviewer and they got something worse than an angry tirade in return.

I’ve mentioned before that a lot of the trolls I’ve dealt with are young kids who think they are pretty tough hiding behind their computer screens. Well this story deals with little shit heads just like those. A female game journalist by the name of Alanah Pearce does video game reviews for an Australian radio station and also has her own YouTube channel. Alanah started receiving very hateful messages through social media some even being death and rape threats. This was the result of things she said that they disagreed with (God forbid reviewers don’t agree with everyone one the internet) and because she’s a woman.

Taken from TheGuardian:
“A while ago, I realised that a lot of the people who send disgusting or overly sexual comments to me over the internet aren’t adult males…It turns out that mostly they’re young boys and the problem is they don’t know any better, so responding to them rationally didn’t resolve the situation. And it got to the point where their comments were starting to make me feel really uncomfortable.”

Obviously these types of things can’t and shouldn’t just be over looked so she took matter into her own hands. She could have turned to the authorities on this matter but instead decided to do the next best thing. She told their mommies HAHAHA…I love it!

Sometimes young boys on Facebook send me rape threats, so I’ve started telling their mothers. pic.twitter.com/0Cbs81eXiE

There is never an excuse for anyone to talk to someone else like that. I can’t say that I’m super impressed with the mom’s response but I would really like to think that this kid got his ass beat and his computer taken away. I can’t stand bullying let alone internet bullying. I think Ms. Pearce handled it very well and I hope that these types of harassing comments have stopped. For those of you that are parents I beg you to pay attention to what your kids are doing online if they are allowed to be on there. Lead them by a good example and show them that they don’t have to contribute to the degradation of the internet or this world.

As always I want to know your thoughts Nerd Nation. Let me know what you think of this situation by leaving me a comment below, on Facebook or on Twitter.
