Dr. Evil on SNL (Video)

Dr. Evil (Mike Myers) makes his triumphant return by hijacking a broadcast of  Sam Smith’s (Taran Killam) Christmas special to address North Korea and Sony Pictures directly about the hack. Honestly I think a fictitious Sam Smith Christmas special would probably be funnier than actually watching SNL these days, but it was good to see Mike Myers reprise his role as the diabolical Dr. Evil.

Austin-Powers-International-Man-of-Mystery-movie-posterThere isn’t much to say about this little skit because, well, it wasn’t very good. Sure it was great to see Mike Myers working again, and yes he even poked fun at his own movie “The Love Guru”, but nothing about this was really that great. He did make a good point though about both North Korea and Sony being evil entities in the world haha. However, I am a huge fan of the original Austin Powers and whoever wrote the dialog for this skit missed a great opportunity. It definitely had to potential to be funny and it had a couple moments that made me smile, but all in all this was yet another sad attempt to for SNL to try and be relevant.

I think it could have been a lot funnier if SNL disguised the skit as an official response from Sony to North Korea and had Dr. Evil acting as President and CEO of Sony. Then he could have derived a much more evil plan of retaliation and incorporated “sharks with frickin laser beams attached to their heads“. Still being the fan boy that I am, and growing up loving the original Austin Powers film, I have to say that it made me smile just to see Mike Myers do Doctor Evil one more time.
