Babylon 5 Movie

Ok, I’m about to Nerd Out real good right now. Babylon 5 is a show that I haven’t even thought about for years. However, my Dad and I use to watch this show on a weekly basis on UPN 13 Haha. I loved the show dare I say even more than any of the Star Trek series. I loved the B5 station and the starfury fighters including the epic way they always launched them. The race that had the most awesome fighters and gear though had to be to the Vorlon. For those of you who don’t know or don’t remember who the Vorlon are I’ve provided a picture below. The series ran from 1994 to 1998 and I believe had a TV movie or two that went along with it.

Creator J. Michael Straczynski let it be known that plans for a new Babylon 5 movie are in the works. In fact, he stated that he would like to have as many of the original cast as possible reprise their roles for this movie. More details were given in a recent interview from Comic Con that Straczynski did with TVwise.

From TVwise;
The hope is that Warner Bros, who produced the Babylon 5 television series, would step up and green-light a “big budget” feature film once the script has been completed. But owing to the nature of the deal that Straczysnki inked with the studio to produce Babylon 5 in the early 1990s, he, rather than Warner Bros, owns the feature film rights to the show. Should Warner Bros. choose not to greenlight a B5 movie, Straczynski would still proceed with the feature, which would then be funded and produced through his Studio JMS banner on a budget of $80 – $100 million.

Now that is some passion if I ever saw it. The great thing is, this doesn’t actually sound like a reboot as Mr. Straczynski also said “I’d love to see Bruce as the President of the Earth Alliance.” I honestly think it would be better for Warner Bros. to just stay out of it because it would actually take off any restrictions that they might try to place on this project. We know how much big budget studios love to change or completely disregard source material. So far no release date has been given but I’ll keep you updated if I hear any more information.

As always I want to know what you think Nerd Nation. Were any of you out there fans of Babylon 5 the TV series and what do you think about a movie that could possible carry on the story? Let me know your thoughts in a comment below or on the Facebook page.
