Real Life Mario Kart Racing (Video)

It’s about time Nintendo did some cool promoting for it’s Wii U system. It’s no secret that Nintendo has done a pretty terrible job of marketing it’s next generation gaming system. In this video Nintendo has joined with Penzoil at SXSW to promote their new game Mario Kart 8. They set up real electric go carts (should have gone with gas) on a track where the public could race each other. There were different pick ups that drivers could get like red goomba shells, banana peels, and the Penzoil sign that would make the carts go faster.

The initial idea sounds fun but the execution seems to be lacking a bit. The carts seem slow and the track is just a simple circular track. They did them the carts and helmets to resemble Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, but like everything else Nintendo has done lately it just feels a bit lazy. in hind sight it seems like it might be kind of a hard thing to make reality truly feel like a video game the same way it is hard for a video game to feel like reality. So until the trailer with actual game play footage is released for Mario Kart 8 appears then I guess this will have to do.

As always I want to hear what you think Nerd Nation. Does this Mario inspired go carting look like fun and do you think this was a good effort by Nintendo to market their new game? Leave me your thoughts in a comment below or on the Facebook page…Enjoy!
