Gotham City TV Series

According to a story written on Movie Pilot the new Gotham TV series will not be about a young James Gordon. This is great news for DC and Batman fans alike. It was announced earlier last year that DC would be working on a TV series set in Gotham City and might cover the early police years of James Gordon. Not too many people were excited about this because, lets be honest, James Gordon isn’t exactly the most exciting character in the Batman universe.

Personally I think a gritty Batman TV series that actually features Batman (costume and all) and that introduces both villains and heroes would be awesome. However, DC feels that taking the Smallville approach to this series would be best. Fox chairman Kevin Reilly talked a bit about what to expect in this new TV series which actually sounds a lot more interesting than I gave it credit for.

This is all of the classic Batman characters,” Reilly said during the panel. “It follows the arc of how they all became what they were. I’ve read the script its really good. It’s going to be this operatic soap that has a slightly larger-than-life quality.

Apparently this is going to include The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman, Penguin and even Batman himself. The jury is still out on whether this will be a recipe for success or not. There are a lot of things that have to come together for this show to really take off and the question remains, where does this fit in with the up coming movies? Will this show tie in somehow or is this a stand alone show meant for it’s own universe? There are still a lot of unanswered questions, but I for one am glad that they decided not to take a boring character and build an entire show around him.

As always we want to know your thoughts on this? Does this sound like a show you will want to watch now that we know it’s NOT going to be about James Gordon’s police career? Leave us your thoughts in a comment below or on our Facebook page.
