Found Star Trek Footage (Video)

I don’t know about you guys but I was a big Trekkie when I was a kid. My Dad and I would watch Star Trek: The Next Generation religiously each week. Those were some great memories, but I didn’t really carry my enthusiasm for Star Trek into my adult years. Don’t get me wrong I am still a fan of The Star Trek Universe but not really a big fan of the movies or later series. Anyways, I remember wanting to visit the studio set so bad as a kid and got close when I was able to go to the “Star Trek: The Experience” that was in Vegas for a short while.

I think it’s pretty much safe to say that I have been a Nerd all my life. However, the guys in this video take Nerdism to a whole new level. Apparently this video was shot in 1988 by a couple of goofs who must have thought they were a daring Away Team exploring an uncharted planet. the story goes that these two super fans broke into the Paramount lot where the sets from Star Trek: The Next Generation were housed to shoot some sort of amateur documentary. One of them is even wearing his own Star Fleet uniform. The video is complete with terrible camera work, even worse dialog, and is topped off with them getting busted by security and running off without their camera. Seems like a waste of a trip but here is the footage some 26 years later for us to enjoy.

I can’t say I watched the entire thing (mainly because it’s over a half hour long) but what I did see was actually pretty cool even if it was really low resolution. It’s just kind of cool to see the set back when it was actually being used for the show.  Anyways, check out the video for an interesting look behind the scenes of Star Trek: The Next Generation even if only to laugh at the two guys in it. As always let us know your thoughts by leaving me a comment below or on the Facebook page…Enjoy!

The Aquatop Gaming Display (Video)

The future of gaming seems a bit messy. This is actually a really cool idea although, I don’t know how much fun it would be for an extended period of time. As innovative and original as gaming in water would be I can’t see something like this taking off in the home market. The Aquatop Display projects an image onto a water-filled bath. Users dip their hands in to control a computer game. It was developed by Tokyo’s University of Electro Communications. My question is; if they used an Xbox Kinect, then how come it seems to work so much better here than with an actual Xbox?

Again this is a really awesome concept and I’m sure there could be many practical uses for something like this. For example, people going through physical therapy could use something like this to regain movement and mobility in their extremities, all while having fun playing a game. I love the way gaming has changed the world as we know it and I love seeing stuff like this that shows us what people are doing to improve or change gaming. Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy what’s coming out of the big gaming companies but I’m also afraid that they are very much limiting the future of gaming to only what they want and what will make them the most money.

With people working on projects like The Aquatop Display then it gives me hope that we will continue to see new ideas and innovation in the gaming industry. As always I want to know your thoughts. What do you think about The Aquatop Display and would you be interested in this type of gaming? After checking out the video, be sure to leave a comment below or on our Facebook page letting us know what you think.

Herman The German

Nothing like a little copyright infringement to start off the day. Who knew Dovahkiin’s name was Herman or that he was German? Weird…Anyways, Happy Tuesday Nerd Nation!
