Detroit Robocop Statue

After a successful KickStarter campaign Detroit will be getting a 10 foot tall bronze Robocop statue to look after the city. The crowd funding program raised $67,436 in a short 6 days. Now I know what some of you might be thinking…Isn’t there a better use for this money in Detroit besides making a statue of Robocop? Well I’m sure there is always a better use for money with few exceptions, but this could be a big moral booster and could bring the city closer together.

The statue will be unveiled next summer just after the Robocop reboot will be released into theaters. The project has the backing of original Robocop actor Peter Weller and will most likely be located somewhere on Wayne State University’s TechTown campus. I think that is probably a good spot for it since my question was; If it were placed in front of town hall, how long would it take before it was vandalized?

Venus Bronze Works in Detroit will help cast the statue with help from Warren Ally Foundry and Edgewise Forge. So what do you think Nerd Nation? Do you think this is a good thing for the city of Detroit or should the money have been used elsewhere? Let us know your thoughts below or on our Facebook page.
