The Elder Scrolls Online not Free To Play

So we’ve been wondering since it was first announced if The Elder Scrolls Online would be free to play. Well we finally got an answer and its not the answer we were hoping for. Aside from the initial purchase price of the game you (the player) will receive 30 days of play, and then you will be charged an additional monthly fee of $14.99. Now this may seem like a pretty standard fee for an MMO but a lot of MMOs are now going free to play; STOR for example

Zenimax Online Studios president Matt Firor said:

“The Elder Scrolls Online was designed and developed to be a premium experience: hundreds of hours of gameplay, tons of depth and features, professional customer support and a commitment to have ongoing content at regular intervals after launch. This type of experience is best paired with a one time fee per month, as opposed to many smaller payments that would probably add up to more than $14.99/month anyway.”

I am very glad that they didn’t decide to go with micro-transactions however, after your $15 a month fee is added up then you just paid an additional $180 for a year to play a game you already purchased. I don’t know about you, but that pill is just a little hard to swallow. As always I am very interested to know your thoughts. Do you think that the monthly charge of $14.99 is fair and will you be picking this game up when it is released? Let us know your thoughts below or leave us a comment on our Facebook Page.
