Kick Ass 2 Star No longer Supports the Movie

Actor Jim Carrey who plays the character Colonel Stars and Stripes in the up coming film Kick Ass 2 has had a change of heart when it comes to his role in the movie. Carrey has been a long time advocate for gun control and after the terrible tragedy of the Sandy hook Elementary School shooting he really became more vocal about the issue.

He recorded a very controversial music video mocking the NRA and the late Charlton Heston. Now, several months after he finished filming the violent sequel he took to his twitter page and made some strong statements about the film.

“I did Kickass a month b4 Sandy Hook and now in all good conscience I cannot support that level of violence. My apologies to e”

“I meant to say my apologies to others involve with the film. I am not ashamed of it but recent events have caused a change in my heart.”

While some people applaud him for his stand against violence others are questioning his sincerity. Some are even going to the lengths to suggest that Carrey donate his earnings from his role in the movie to a Sandy Hook charity.
Writer and Kick Ass creator Mark Millar has responded to Carrey on his Millarworld website saying;

“Ultimately, this is his decision, but I’ve never quite bought the notion that violence in fiction leads to violence in real-life any more than Harry Potter casting a spell creates more Boy Wizards in real-life.”

It remains to be seen what kind of consequences (if any) will come from this towards Mr. Carrey. Most actors are contracted to promote their respective movies in some for or fashion. It will be interesting to see what comes of this especially since Colonel Stars and Stripes is written into the third book of the series. So if there is going to be a third movie it doesn’t seem very likely that Jim Carrey will be reprising his role.

The topic of violence in entertainment has been a topic that has been debated over for decades. So what are your thoughts on this Nerd Nation?
