Huge News out of Microsoft about The Xbox One

For once Microsoft execs have finally done something consumer friendly. They have made some major changes to The Xbox One that should turn this whole console war around a bit and win them back some fans.

According to Xbox.com these are some of the new features coming to the Xbox One:

  • An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.
  • Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.

Xbox V.P.  Marc Whitten told Kotaku, “We believe a lot in this digital future,” Whitten said. “We believe it builds an amazing experience—the ability to have a broader sharing platform and my content coming with me, [but] what we heard is people still wanted more choice… they wanted the familiarity of the physical disc.”

I think if Microsoft came out and explained it all more like that from the beginning then I believe the last few Months could have looked a lot different for them. Now they have been forced to try and win their fan base back and it still looks like they have a bit of an up hill battle on their hands.
