EA Signs Deal With Disney

For those of you that have been paying attention there has been a lot of controversy with Disney’s acquisition of Lucas films most recently with the closing of Lucas Arts. While most of us Nerds were upset over the loss of a once great gaming company we also knew that Lucas Arts was only a mere shell of what it once was. I for one was excited to see what Disney was going to do with the Star Wars license as far as gaming was concerned, because I knew it was only a matter of time before Disney made their move to put Star Wars games into development.

Just as the dust storm of Lucas Arts being closed settled down we got some very exciting news. President of Electronic Arts Frank Gibeau announced on Tuesday that Disney has signed over exclusive gaming development rights to Electronic Arts.

EA would have rights to develop Star Wars titles for a “core gaming audience” across all interactive platforms and The most popular gaming genres. Meanwhile, Disney would retain the right to create certain games for mobile, social, tablet and online.
,br> “Every developer dreams of creating games for the Star Wars universe,” says Frank Gibeau, president of EA Labels, in a statement.

Now I know there has been a lot of hate going around for EA lately but I think we forget that they do have very good developers. Dice, Visceral, and BioWare have been announced to be EA’s top 3 studios to get a first crack at developing new Star Wars games. We can only guess for now what games they will be developing but I think with so much out cry, we will most likely see “Battlefront 3” complete and “Star Wars 1313” completed as well.

So it’s time for you to weigh in on this Nerd Nation! What are your thoughts on EA taking over the development of Star Wars games and what games would you like to see get made??? Please leave your comments below of on our Facebook Page!
